Some padding in the right places

I installed some anti-chafe tape in several places on the left wing today.  I also used some MEK to remove some of the Poly-Fil I painted on the other night in areas I will be glueing down the fabric.  I also added some thin padding material to the leading edge of the wing.  This will help hide some of the little imperfections I could not fill and sand out perfectly.  Next step, glue some fabric on!

Wing OK'd to cover

Wade came by today and completed the repair on the rib, including a signed FAA Form 337.  He also showed me how to remove the old control surface bearings using a C-clamp and 2 sockets.  It works really well (see pictures below).  I removed all the bearings in both wings and replaced about half before running out of time.  Wade also said I was good to go on the covering.  Maybe tomorrow?

Preparation for covering

I found some time this evening to do a few tasks on 98K.  I painted 2 coats of Poly-Brush on the left wing panel as a step in getting ready to do the covering  I also used some MEK on the aileron to remove Poly-Brush in the area where inspection holes will go.  I then used Poly-Tak to glue on the reinforcements for the inspection holes.  Maybe tomorrow night I can put the fabric reinforcements over these.

Wade came by this afternoon and helped me on the rib repair.  We have it all complete except a few rivets in a really tight area over the rear spar.  We get those next time with some different tools.  Then, we should be ready to cover that wing panel.  Yea!

Left aileron complete

I spent some time off and on this weekend putting the finishing tapes on the left aileron.  It is now complete, except for a little ironing here and there to smooth things out in a few places.  Here is a shot of both ailerons.
