Just like new

I have spent some time in the past week or two cleaning up some of the wing hardware recently removed from the left wing.  There was some surface corrosion, but that was easily removed and then I primed the parts.  Next up is to scotch brite the wing and get it ready for priming.  With a 3 day weekend coming, maybe I can get this done.  I'll have to see what the temperatures do.  They have been over 100 the last few days. 

Fun at Stearman Field

I am never quite sure whcih blog to post things in since I have three.  So, I thought I would at least put in a link so you can easily go to my blog for the house and see the fun we had this weekend with the fly-in at Stearman Field.  I figured it was good to mention this on the Stinson blog so you would know why I was not making much progress.  Its hard to get anything done when you constantly have to run to the edge of the hangar to see what's going by.......now that's my kind of problem!

Happy Father's Day

To all you dads out there, Happy Father's Day.  I received a grinder in honor of the day.  My daughter Kristin lives in Connecticut and says a grinder there is another word for a sub sandwich.  As you can see from the picture, this is no a sub sandwich!

I also took advantage of Nathan's truck this weekend and made a few trips to Wade's to pick up parts of 98K he has had in storage for the past 10 months or so while we were moving and getting settled.  It was really nice of Wade to store these.  He also took the time to look a few over and mark certain parts with the word "replace" so I would be ahead of the game when I start working on those items.  So, all of 98K is back under one roof tonight.

Starting work on the wings

Last night, Debbie helped my place the left wing on a set of saw horses.  Late this afternoon, I started work.  It was really relaxing to finally get back to work on 98K in its new home.  It took me a few minutes to locate things, but it was fun to start turning wrenches again.  The weather was beautiful with high temperatures near 80.  I had the hangar door open and a cool breeze coming through.  It was nice to have plenty of bench space to lay things out on and really good lighting. 

I removed most of the hardware from the aft wing.  I removed the aileron and flap cables, plus the pulleys, brackets, and anything else bolted on.  I also removed the nav light assembly.  Next I will remove the pitot and static lines and the wiring to the nav light and landing light.

I want to get the wing naked so I can shoot it with primer.  Once again, the digital camera is the best tool in the box.  I shot 37 pictures to remind me how to put it back together.  At least the right wing is there for comparison.  Here are a few shots of the progress:
